Mr. Fahrenheit

Mr. Fahrenheit is a specially designed wall hanging vase for Chinese university students. Featuring detachable hooks, convenient handles, and a removable water tray, Mr. Fahrenheit enables students to maintain plants even within the confines of a crowded dormitory setting.

Ideation

I tried various designs in order to achieve the three features on my vase. Finally I decided that the general shape of my vase was a cylinder, and there were three areas that I needed to further optimize: base, handles, and water tray.

Base

In order to keep plants around students in the dormitory, I designed a structure which the main body of the vase can be separated from the wall sticky hook. Students only need to stick the base in the position they want and hang the vase on them.

Handles

In order to get the vase off the wall and to move the vase better, I think the handle is necessary. I tried various different form and shapes of handle.

After several designs, I think a concave, rounded handle is more suitable for the user to grab, more aesthetic, and more fit with the Xiaomi’s design language.

Water Tray

Water tray that told extra water is very important for a vase, especially for beginners. After several designs, I think the water tray would be integrated with the vase, which is more in line with Xiaomi’s design aesthetics, while the water tray should be convenient and intuitive to take out.
